Frequently Asked Questions
What is field hockey?
While it shares similarities with other sports, field hockey has its own unique history, rules, and equipment. The game is played by two teams of 11 on a 100-yard field. Just like soccer or ice hockey, players work together to advance the ball down the field and score by hitting the ball into the opponent's goal. Field hockey sticks are uniquely shaped with a rounded side and flat side - only the flat side of the field hockey stick can be used to dribble or hit the ball. It’s a wonderful sport for developing teamwork, speed, and agility.
Are your clinics co-ed?
We welcome both girls and boys at our clinics! In the United States, field hockey has historically been played by more female athletes than male athletes. There are more than 1,800 high schools with varsity girl’s field hockey teams and almost 300 NCAA colleges and universities with women’s varsity teams. Men’s field hockey is not quite as popular at the high school and college level in the US.. However, outside of the US, the sport is widely played by both men and women. We welcome everybody to come check it out!
Do I need to bring a field hockey stick to attend a clinic?
Nope - we can provide loaner sticks if you don’t have your own. You can also buy beginner sticks online via Longstreth or STX.
